Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET) takes immense pride in the outstanding achievements of its alumnus, Mehran Memon, who has made remarkable contributions to the field of eye health in Pakistan and beyond.
A graduate of the 08 Batch (BS Software Engineering) and B11 Batch (MS Software Engineering), Mehran currently serves as the Assistant Director of Information Technology, Certified Master Trainer IT Lead for Peek Projects Pakistan, and Focal Person for Safeguarding at the Sindh Institute of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences (SIOVS). His pioneering work has positioned him as a leading innovator in integrating technology with healthcare, particularly in advancing patient-centered eye care systems.
Since joining SIOVS in 2017, Mehran has played a vital role in implementing the Peek software-powered solution, expanding comprehensive eye care services across Sindh. His work has significantly enhanced accessibility and data-driven decision-making in public health. Additionally, he has developed hospital management systems for multiple ophthalmology clinics, revolutionizing patient care.
His collaborations with CBM International Pakistan have further strengthened eye health programs, including the Heavy Vehicle Driver Eye Screening Clinic, Community Eye Screening, Door-to-Door Eye Screening, and School Eye Screening projects. These initiatives have screened over 1.3 million individuals, with more than 150,000 people referred for specialized care, setting a benchmark for technology-driven eye healthcare.
Beyond his technical expertise, Mehran’s leadership in safeguarding policies at SIOVS has been instrumental in fostering safe and inclusive healthcare environments. In 2023, he successfully trained over 300 healthcare professionals and introduced the Washington Group of Questionnaires into SIOVS’s Hospital Management Information System, making it the first public eye institute in Pakistan to adopt this inclusive approach.
Mehran’s influence extends internationally, as he has contributed to refining Peek software now used in over 13 countries. His dedication to open-source data mining and system-driven solutions has been widely recognized, further strengthening his reputation as a trailblazer in the field.
In light of his exceptional contributions, Mehran Memon has been nominated for the prestigious IAPB Young Systems Leader Award 2025, an honor recognizing individuals who drive transformative change in global eye health systems.
