Prof. Dr. Attiya Baqai, an alumni and professor of Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro has been featured on the World Intellectual Property Day 2023 Gallery as the only woman (so far) from Pakistan, commemorated on 26th April. She is currently serving at the same university as a Professor at the Department of Electronic Engineering.

The World IP Day Gallery is a prestigious platform that showcases the work of innovators and creators from all around the world. As part of the celebrations, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) called for nominations to recognize innovative, creative, and enterprising women who are using IP rights to accelerate innovation and creativity.

Prof. Dr. Attiya Baqai’s nomination is a significant achievement, and it is a testament to her hard work and dedication to her research and creative work. The World IP Day campaign celebrated the “can do” attitude of women inventors, creators, entrepreneurs, and IP professionals around the world, who often face significant challenges in accessing the knowledge, skills, resources, and support they need to thrive. The gallery features women from more than 60 countries who are forging new horizons with their groundbreaking ideas and paving the way for others.

It is a proud moment for all of us that Prof. Dr. Attiya Baqai’s nomination got accepted by World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) for the World IP Day Gallery as a “Change Maker” in the field of Engineering. She is currently the only woman from Pakistan whose nomination has been accepted for this Gallery, featuring women from around the globe comprising more than 60 countries from various fields including Agriculture/Food, AI/ Machine Learning, Business/ Communications Technology, Creative Industries (e.g Film, literature, etc), Design, Energy, Engineering, Environmental Protection, fashion, Health, Law, Life Sciences, and others.

Prof. Dr. Attiya Baqai’s achievement is a source of pride for MUET, and it serves as an inspiration for future generations of women in Pakistan and around the world. The World IP Day Gallery is a prestigious platform that showcases the work of innovators and creators from all around the world, and it is an honor to be a part of it. Accepted nominees are offered various IP training opportunities by the WIPO Academy as an incentive.
