Mehran University of Engineering and Technology in collaboration with Mehran University Alumni Association celebrated the 60th anniversary of its transition from college to university on 20th January 2023. The Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives Engr. Ahsan Iqbal Chaudhry was the chief guest at the event.
During the ceremony, the Vice Chancellor of MUET, Prof. Dr. Tauha Hussain Ali, highlighted the significance of the alumni’s role in the development of the university. He said that this is the first time in the history of MUET that such a large number of alumni have returned to the university. He encouraged alumni to support the university financially or to share their knowledge, skills, and experiences with current students and faculty members. He said that if each of the alumni spends one rupee, one minute, and their talents for the university, it will develop further. He also emphasized that the university needs the support of its eminent graduates and alumni.
Distinguished engineers and graduates of MUET were awarded certificates and shields for their services during the 60-year celebration ceremony. Tributes were paid to former Principals of the College Dr. Muhammad Sulaiman Larik, Dr. AQ Afghan, and Dr. AF Abbasi, former Vice Chancellors of MUET, Prof. Dr. SM Qureshi, Prof. Dr. Abdul Ahad Abro, Prof. Dr. Abdul Qudous Alvi, Engr. Muzaffar Ali Shah, Prof. Dr. Abdul Rehman Memon, Prof. Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan Rajput, and Prof. Dr. Mohammad Aslam Uqaili.
The alumni participating in the celebration were given a tour of the university’s hostels, classrooms, canteen, and library among other places. In the late-night musical concert program, the famous singer Sanam Marvi performed her art and warmed the souls and hearts of her listeners in the cold night.
